Big Screen is Back in Hong Kong

(Movie Town, Sha Tin by Ema Poposka)

Have you heard the best news of the week? Cinemas in Hong Kong have reopened their doors after Covid-19 restrictions were eased on the 18th of February last month (TimeOut, 2021).

Film buffs can once again see some of the long-awaited releases back on the big screen. Superhero fans can enjoy the new “Wonder Woman 1984” adventure in which she faces two all-new foes: Max Lord and The Cheetah. If you are more of an animated film fan there are several equally-good options such as the latest Pixar movie “Soul” which will get you thinking about some of life’s most important questions, the Japanese anime “Crayon Shinchan” which brings graffiti to life, or another Japanese movie called “Given” that will put you on a roller-coaster of love triangles and music bands. Music and dancing are the topics of “The Way We Keep Dancing,” a movie about the struggle of Hong Kong grassroots performing artists. Best of all, these are just a few of the movies among hundreds of others to choose from.

However, the reopening of cinemas means that some health protocols will have to be followed. Cinema-goers will have to register with the contact-tracing app or by filling in their contact details in a form when entering. Everyone needs to get their temperature checked and wear a mask (Soriano, 2021).

Let’s hope that these restrictions will be fully lifted soon so we can go back to enjoying our favourite popcorn while watching some movies.
