The Allay hits beta testing for players

Edited by Lianne Lee

In Minecraft’s latest beta version 1.19, the new mob has been released for people to enjoy: The Allay.

In late October of last year, Minecraft released a community mob vote, where players would be able to see 3 new creatures and vote on the one they wished to be added to the game in Minecraft’s annual Livestream, Minecraft Live. This Livestream was hosted on Youtube, and also it was revealed Minecraft’s plans to expand their already massive franchise.

The mob that got the most votes last year was the Allay, a small turquoise avian humanoid with bright blue eyes. It has the ability to fly and pick up and give items to the player, as well as be able to pick up identical items as ones a player gives them. The Allay will not be able to break blocks on its own, so it won’t be able to help you mine for resources(PC Gamer, 2022).

The allay will also be responsive to music. If a note block is played near an Allay, it will then drop all its items not where the player is currently standing, but instead next to the note block (PC Gamer, 2022).

As of right now, the Allay spawns naturally in pillager outposts and woodland mansions in small dark oak cages, expanding the lore of the massive world of Minecraft a little more. Nobody knows why the Allays are in cages, perhaps they were hunted. While Minecraft isn’t a story-based game, it’s interesting to see the creators drop tiny details that hint at a potential conflict or history behind their creatures and the world (xisumavoid, 2022).

The Allay will be added sometime in 2022, the official release of Minecraft version 1.19, the Wild update. It’s currently still in a testing phase, so it’s exciting to see how the allays will change as it gets refined. Along with mangrove swamps and frogs, the allay looks like another exciting feature players can utilize as they continue to expand their own infinite worlds.
