Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, you might be tired of eating the same food over and over at home. So how about you try some new traditional Korean foods that might just explode your tastebuds? Of course, eating traditional Korean food would always be the best eaten straight in Korea, but since we aren’t able to go on vacation, how about some Korean food that can be found in Hong Kong as well?

1. Kimchi

This is of course the food that mainly represents Korea's food culture and a side dish that a lot of people enjoy. It is a spicy sidekick dish usually paired with some pickled radish, that is available in nearly every house and every restaurant in Korea. It is made from salting and preserving fermented cabbage along with pepper, garlic, ginger and scallion. It goes well with a lot of dishes like stews, noodles or even just a snack by itself. It is usually spicy in Korean restaurants, but non-spicy versions are also available in supermarkets all around Hong Kong.

2. Samgyeopsal

This is pork belly strips in English and can be seen in every Korean BBQ restaurant, with these pork strips sizzling on the grill. It is usually served with lettuce, perilla leaves, sliced onions, garlic, and kimchi, as well as a famous Korean paste called gochujang. Nearly all Koreans and everyone who eats meat love samgyeopsal, with its juicy taste.

3. Korean ramen

If you aren’t able to reach a Korean restaurant to eat some traditional Korean food, then just go to the supermarket to pick up kimchi along with some Korean ramen. This is enjoyed by everyone including mukbangers all over the world and can be eaten spicy or non-spicy too. These instant noodles are a quick snack or meal that tastes amazing with kimchi and can be made in the comfort of your own home too. A few less spicy ramen noodles that are amazing are Ottogi cheese ramen, Samyang potato ramen and Jin mild ramen.

4. Bibimbap

Bibimbap means mixed rice in Korean, and it is made out of mixed ingredients like namul (seasoned and sautéed vegetables), mushrooms, beef, soy sauce, gochujang (chilli pepper paste), and a fried egg. But there are a lot of varied choices of ingredients depending on the region or even the restaurant. So guaranteed, nearly no bibimbap would taste the same from different restaurants. There are even vegetarian options for bibimbap too, so even those vegetarians interested can try it out too!

5. Samgyetang

This means ginseng chicken soup in Korean, which most of you are probably familiar with. It is really popular not only in Korea and in Hong Kong too. You don’t have to eat this at restaurants, as a lot of places like supermarkets or other shops provide pre-made or packaged ingredients to make ginseng chicken soup too due to the popularity and favouritism of this Korean soup.

Now, through these top 5 Korean traditional foods that can be found all over the world along with Hong Kong, you can enjoy the new variety and tastes of a different culture.
