The ifva Awards recognizes talented filmmakers in the fields of short films, videos and animation across Asia. Established in 1995, the awards are given by a jury of Asian industry experts dedicated to helping creative people develop their talents. Each year, the ifva festival takes place in March in Hong Kong, organized by the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

For the 27th ifva festival, the award ceremony was conducted online on 12 March 2022 with the announcement of results, as the pandemic prevented screenings and exhibitions at the Hong Kong Arts Centre. No screenings were held, but 18 awards were given out to five categories of short films, animation, and media art finalists. The Living Sea, a short film by RCHK student Ema Poposka was recognized by the jury among the finalists in the Youth category.

The Gold Award in the Youth category went to Yuen Wai-ho’s Dysregulation, a black and white short film about the role of teachers and surveillance in the classroom. In the catalogue, the jury praised the young director “for choosing to explore a bold and relevant subject matter”.

The Silver went to Relinquished by Li Hei-lam and Chan Yik-tung, a silent short film about living with regrets. In the catalogue, the jury highlighted “the highly engaging performances are outstanding and the scene where they do their wandering dance in city streets is impressive”.

Special Mention was given to three films in the Youth category: Wong Wai-wa’s The Endless Fate about love and separation due to migration, Sky San’s In Pursuit of Friendship about giving up on love and friendship due to pressure from society, and Chan Po-yan’s Love in a Time of Despair about the last meeting before a friend’s departure. The Youth Enthusiastic Award was presented to Chinese YMCA College.
