The nominees are the best of the best in the industry, and the audience is an array of superstars, caught up in the excitement of the evening.

With the Oscars season coming up, here’s a look at the nominees for best documentary feature. The Feature Documentary category is looking to be one of the more competitive categories of the Oscars this year. The nominations are more diverse than in previous years and there is a lot of good films.

According to many, the main contender for the Oscar this year is the animated documentary “Flee”. The film made its premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, winning the World Cinema Documentary title. Released to critical acclaim, with a 98 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, “Flee” tells the coming-out story of a gay Afghani refugee resettled in Denmark. The Guardian (2022) described the film as a “masterly animated documentary” and “ultimately uplifting”, while Variety stated that it was “an incredibly intimate act of sharing” (Variety 2022). In an Oscars first, the film is also nominated in two more categories, best international feature film and best-animated feature film. You can watch it on Amazon and Apple TV!
