Bill Maher: Screw Mars, Let’s Make Earth Great Again

Comedian Bill Maher’s Scientific Chart Comparing Mars With Earth

By now, you might be depressed by how fewer people care about the environment compared to the crowd obsessing about going and colonizing Mars, but comedian and TV host Bill Maher, roasted Mars in his editorial segment “New Rules” by telling them to “shut up” about the red planet and stood by Earth and the environment (Maher, 2021).

Bill first introduced humankind’s deep interest in Mars on TV and movies, businesses like Budweiser and billionaires from Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and SpaceX’s Elon Musk who want to colonize the red planet for humans to live in. Even former President Donald Trump who slashes the EPA’s budget supports going to Mars after signing a bill calling astronauts to be on Mars before 2033. “Here’s a crazy idea,” Bill Maher pointed out, “if we’re going to take the challenge to overhaul a planet, let’s do this one” (Maher, 2021).

In order to get the message across to Trump, Bill called Mars “an airless, lifeless, freezing s**thole” (Maher, 2021). He first pointed out that breathing oxygen is a necessity but going to Mars, a planet with lots of carbon dioxide might end you up with the full Mike Pence. He also kindly reminded the audience of the wide temperature variations of Mars.

He reminded the viewers, “If you want to explore something cold and hard, how about the factors. Facts that confirm climate change is killing us, but completely doable policies can reverse it” (Maher, 2021). Bill then used a “scientific chart” to praise Earth, which said that Earth has air, food, water, and is close to where you live. While Mars has no air, the only food is potatoes that grow out from human feces, there is a possibility of water somewhere, though it takes eight months to travel. He warned the audience that Mars has nothing, “No kale for liberals, no opioids for conservatives” (Maher, 2021) .

To end his segment, Bill Maher yelled, “F**k Mars, it’s time to make Earth great again!”
