DWG vs EDG: Korea vs China

Edited by Rachel Heung

(Peters, 2020)

One of the most respected names in gaming history, League of Legends is the main source of toxic silver 12 year old tryhards spamming “jgl diff'' in all chat because they were constantly being pressured by a Nunu. But it’s also known for its incredible competition in eSports, claiming the position as one of the most influential games in history.

League of Legends is a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) game, taking place on the Summoners Rift, a map with three lanes and a jungle separating all three. This also happens to be where 96% of all toxic waste is created, the other 4% are people actually trying in All Random All Mid (Aram). With 157 champs released onto the battlefield, there are countless ways to navigate through 30 minutes of stress.

With any competitive game comes the professional players, the people who are so good at this game they are paid to play and entertain players. They play in tournaments, championships, leagues (hahaha), and other forms of competition. But the most important one in League of Legends is Worlds Championships, a competitive stage and the only one where things get intense. Every year, teams from across the globe try their best to get into this competition because this is where you make your name known, and this year is no different.

With 24 teams competing for a $2 million dollar prize, everyone has played their way through their own respective regions to get into this competition. The groups stage saw the most unusual turnouts, such as FPX getting 4th (??????) and C9 actually getting through to the quarterfinals.

After a month-long battle, two teams emerged victorious, ready to battle each other in the finals. The first team is Damwon Gaming, one of the most favored teams from previous championships. They are generally considered to be the strongest team currently, they are the LCK’s (League of Legends Champion Korea) #1 seed. With a jungler such as Canyon, you can stop complaining about not receiving ganks by the 1 minute mark. The other team is Edward Gaming, the LPL’s (Tencent League of Legends Pro League (China)) #1 seed. With an Attack Damage Carry (Adc) such as Viper, you can finally rest in peace knowing that your botlane isn’t inting (Intentionally feeding the enemy team kills).

This match will be the clash of two kings, one reigning over South Korea, and the other reigning over China. Which one will win? Probably Damwon to be honest but I can see EDG winning. (Faker not in finals though :( .)
