Adele is back after a 5-year long break

Edited by Lianne Lee

(Gonzales, 2021)

The world-renown British singer is back and she is not disappointing. After a long hiatus of 5 years, Adele released “Easy on Me” on October 15th. Adele has already been on the cover of the British and the US’s cover of Vogue since then. The song is labelled as a simple piano ballad with bass drums and a guitar. It became number 68 on Billboard Hot 100 just 5 hours after its release; then the following week it rocketed to the top, making it the singer’s fifth number one on the chart. With the song’s quick move from number sixty-eight to number one, “Easy on Me” marked the largest jump to the top spot since “Look What You Made Me Do” by Taylor Swift. The song gained 74,000 downloads, 53.9 million streams and 65 million radio audience impressions in its second week on the Hot 100.

The top-charting song is set to be the lead single of Adele’s new album, called “30”, coming out on November 19th. Moreover, on the night of September 30th, fans spotted the number “30” projected on many prominent places such as The Empire State Building, The Louvre in Paris and even The Colosseum. When announcing the album on social media, she expresses that writing those songs cheered her up while she was going through a difficult time.

Adele’s previous album, “25”, came out in 2015 and won album of the year at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. She also won all six awards she was nominated for at the 54th Annual Grammy awards including album of the year, song of the year and record of the year. “Easy on Me” is nominated for People’s Choice Awards for Favourite Song and Favourite Music Video of 2021. Do you think Adele will win the awards with her new top song?
