Camila Cabello’s Wardrobe Malfunction on Live TV

Edited by Rachel Heung

(Soteriou, 2022)

Camila Cabello, former member of Fifth Harmony (an American girl group based in Miami) was born on the 3rd of March, 1997 in Cojimar, Havana, Cuba. She is one of the most famous American singers and songwriters. Some of her biggest hits over the past few years include Señorita, Havana, My Oh My, and Liar.

Camila was recently invited to do an interview on BBC’s The One Show, joined by hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas to promote ‘Bam Bam’, her newest single featuring Ed Sheeran. During the interview, Camila was asked to show the audience her favorite dance move. She adjusted her oversized shirt before standing up and accidentally revealing her chest. She then quickly covered up with her shirt.

After demonstrating her dance, she jokingly said “Almost flashed you”, adding “I hope you didn’t see nipple.” Alex replied, “Do you know what, there was a bit of a wardrobe malfunction. I don't know what I saw. There was a flash of something.” while Alan Carr, an English comedian who’s another guest on the show was struggling to keep his laughter in check in the studio, covered his mouth in surprise before joking, 'I've been a victim of cyber flashing!' After Camila realized what had happened, she jokingly said, “My mom is in the next room right now, possibly freaking out about my wardrobe malfunction.”

Soon after the incident, Camila poked fun at herself about the situation by posting a TikTok video lip-syncing to “wish I had a time machine”, and writing "When my stylist asked me if I wanted nip covers and I said no".

People have a tendency to create a big issue out of a minor occurrence, paying a lot of attention to something that should be dismissed. In this case, celebrities’ wardrobe malfunctions. But luckily, Camila wasn’t one to fall victim to such internet trolls, and instead dealt with the situation by laughing it off.

Many people praised Camila for “handling the situation like a pro”. Additionally, many people quickly jumped on social media to speak up and defend Camila about the situation. One Twitter user (@lyndseyowens14) wrote: "To all the gross old men sharing the screenshots of Camila’s tits… Get a grip, saddos. To the girls… You should know better." Another user (@lewigg) commented: “People on the internet fully posting Camila Cabello’s nip slip need to leave it out bro y’all have to be creeps and literally be posting it everywhere and it’s grim bless her.”
