Olivia Rodrigo has emerged as the front-runner for next year's Grammy Awards, with a total of 7 nominations including all four of the main categories. But, who’s surprised? The 18-year-old has been nominated for record of the year, song of the year, best pop solo performance for “Drivers License”, best album, best new artist, best pop vocal album, and best music video for “Good 4 U”. She faces competition from huge singers, Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X in three of those categories. Rodrigo is now the second youngest and the first Filipina to be nominated for all of the Grammy’s four top categories.
Even without addressing her Grammy nominations, it can already be known that it has been an incredible year for Rodrigo. Olivia Rodrigo rose to fame from the Disney+ series, “High School Musical: The Series”. In January, she released Drivers License which immediately became a global hit. The song showcased her vocal and songwriting talent. It broke Spotify’s streaming records and was number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. After the worldwide phenomenon, she went on to release an entire album named “Sour” in May. She’s performed on Saturday Night Live (SNL) and has even been awarded three MTV Video Music Awards!
Other top Grammy nominees this year include Jon Batiste with 11 nominations, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, and H.E.R. who all earned a whopping eight nominations! ABBA received its first Grammy nomination in the record of the year category. The popular Korean boy band, BTS, who made history last year as the first K-pop act to get a Grammy nomination is back again with a nomination for best pop duo/group performance. The 64th Annual Grammy Awards will be on Monday, January 31st 2022. Who do you think will win? Will Rodrigo be able to gain all 7 Grammys?
